In a Sept. 13 Facebook post, state Rep. Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) shared his visit to Herrin House of Hope.

"At the House of Hope," Jacobs said in the post. "One of the speakers, along with Mayor Frattini, Senator Fowler. Many friends with me all afternoon. Wonderful folks. House of Hope has fed 400,000 people in the last ten years!"

The Herrin House of Hope's mission is to help the poor and needy in the Herrin area make a new course for their lives and find hope for the future. It is a cooperative Christian ministry of area churches, businesses and ordinary people committed to giving hope for those who are struggling.

"We follow the example of Jesus who came with good news for the poor and freedom for the oppressed (Luke 4:18)," the website said.

The organization offers a soup kitchen, thrift store, food pantry, free GED classes and free summer meal program; its Facebook page said.

Herrin House of Hope recently auctioned off coupons from Freddy's Steakburgers.

"We happen to have several sets of Freddy's Steakburgers coupons leftover from our Family Fun Day silent auction," the organization said in a Facebook post. All proceeds from the auction went to the organization.

Jacobs was first elected to the Illinois House in 2020, the House said. A Republican, his legislative experience includes serving on the Tourism and Higher Education committees.
