City of Assumption Streets Committee met June 7.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairman Reed at City Hall.
Streets Committee members present were Chairman Reed and Smith. Also present was Mayor Page, Street Supt Darin Damery, Treasurer Angel Palmer and City Clerk Janet Waller.
Alderperson Nelsen was absent.
Present in the audience was Travis Sullivan and Stefani Callan.
Alderperson Smith made a motion to approve the Streets Committee Meeting minutes of May 12, 2022 seconded by Reed.
Under Old Business:
The railroad on First Street needs to be repaired. Mayor Page will get an update from the railroad.
Under New Business
They have started working on removing some trees in town.
The committee discussed grass clippings.
They will be oiling and rocking in the near future.
Mayor Page has purchased lights for the signs on Rt 51. They will arrive in 10 weeks and Greg Butcher will install the lights.
Mayor Page announced Travis Sullivan is interested in the Alderperson vacancy for Ward 2 and would like to appoint him at the July Council meeting.
Mayor Page would like to change the meetings to 2 meetings a month. One meeting would be an ordinance meeting to go over everything and then a council meeting would still be on the first Wednesday of the month. The committee discussed their thoughts.
Public comments questioned if a sidewalk or a bike path could be put in for the safety of people walking to Dollar General. Street Supt Damery is working on engineering and getting possible plans for a sidewalk.
Alderperson Reed made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:50 pm.
