Village of New Baden Board of Trustees met Oct. 3.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Regular Meeting of the New Baden Village Board was held in person and remotely via Zoom Meetings. The meeting was held at New Baden Village Hall, 1 E Hanover St, with a physical quorum of the New Baden Village Board present. The meeting was also held via Zoom Meetings. The public could observe and comment, when appropriate, by connecting on line through Zoom Meetings or calling in to participate. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Zurliene at 7:00 pm.

Present and answering to roll call: Mayor Taylor Zurliene; Trustees Bob Oster, Chris Locke, Cindi Meredith-Wheelan (via Zoom Meetings), Rebecca Schomaker, and Doug Henderson. Absent: Trustee Nicole Pederson. Staff Members Present: Village Clerk Teri Crane; Village Administrator Erika Heil (via Zoom Meetings); Attorney Luke Behme of Bruckert, Behme & Long, P.C.; Public Works Commissioner Tim Deien; Chief of Police Chuck Mackin; Treasurer Casey Weekley; and EMS Director Allen Gilbert. Staff Members Absent: None.

Consolidated Election: April 4, 2023

Petition Packets for the April 4, 2023 Consolidated Election will be available on Tuesday, September 20. Petitions can be filed December 12-19, 2022.

Plan Commission Public Hearing

The Plan Commission will have a Public Hearing on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

Guests to Address the Board

Brian & Christine Krausz and their daughters were present. Mr. Krausz and his wife were in an accident on September 25, 2022, near the intersection of State Route 160 and 161. Mr. Krausz stated he was impressed with the quickness that the Ambulance, Fire Protection District and the Police Department were on the scene. He stated how fortunate the Village is to have these services available within the community. Mr. Krausz had a concern about the Police Department not issuing a moving violation to the other party who hit their vehicle at the intersection. Chief of Police Mackin stated that the other party had been issued a ticket.

Treasurer’s Report

Board members reviewed the October 2021 to May 2022 Treasurer’s Report prepared by Treasurer Weekley. These reports had been delayed due to the implementation of new General Ledger software.

EMS/ Ambulance Report

Board members reviewed the EMS/ Ambulance report submitted by Ambulance Director Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert reported that the Transport Truck had increased usage during August and September.

Consent Agenda

A motion was made by Trustee Schomaker and seconded by Trustee Locke to approve the Consent Agenda, which includes the of payment of current invoices, and minutes from the September 19, 2022, regular meeting.

Ayes: Oster, Locke, Meredith-Wheelan, Schomaker, Henderson. Nays: None.

Absent: Pederson.

A majority of the Board voting aye, the motion carried.

Resolution 2022-10-03- A: Contract Extension with Republic Services

A motion was made by Trustee Schomaker and seconded by Trustee Locke to approve Resolution 2022-10-03-A: Authorizing Contract Extension between the Village of New Baden and Republic Services (effective date 11/1/2022 to 10/31/2027). The rate increase is 3% in the first year and a 4% increase (rounded down) in the remaining years. All other offered services remain the same.

Ayes: Oster, Locke, Meredith-Wheelan, Schomaker, Henderson. Nays: None.

Absent: Pederson.

A majority of the Board voting aye, the motion carried.

Pay Request – Final: KRB Excavating for Thouvenot Lane Concrete Replacement

A motion was made by Trustee Locke and seconded by Trustee Schomaker to authorize Pay Request – Final to KRB Excavating for the Thouvenot Lane Concrete Replacement in the amount of $600.02.

Ayes: Oster, Locke, Meredith-Wheelan, Schomaker, Henderson. Nays: None.

Absent: Pederson.

A majority of the Board voting aye, the motion carried.

Pay Request – Final: KRB Excavating for Thouvenot Lane Concrete Swale

A motion was made by Trustee Oster and seconded by Trustee Locke to authorize Pay Request – Final to KRB Excavating for the Thouvenot Lane Concrete Swale in the amount of $2,500.95.

Ayes: Oster, Locke, Meredith-Wheelan, Schomaker, Henderson. Nays: None.

Absent: Pederson.

A majority of the Board voting aye, the motion carried.

Farmer’s Market

Mayor Zurliene stated that September 24 was the last Farmer’s Market of the season at the community Park. This was the last Saturday of each month through the summer. His wife, Aimee, was the coordinator for the Farmer’s Market. All vendor fees collected went back into the events held in conjunction with the Market. Mayor Zurliene extended his thanks to Village staff for their efforts and help with the Market.

There being no further business to be brought before the Village Board, a motion was made by Trustee Schomaker and seconded by Trustee Locke to adjourn the meeting.

Ayes: Oster, Locke, Meredith-Wheelan, Schomaker, Henderson. Nays: None.

Absent: Pederson.

A majority of the Board voting aye, the motion carried, and the meeting adjourned at 7:26 pm.
