City of Hillsboro City Council met Feb. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

HILLSBORO CITY COUNCIL "Special Meeting"

Mayor Downs called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm.

Roll call was taken and those present were Mayor Downs and Commissioners Wright, Butler, Gregory and Ward.

The "Pledge of Allegiance" was recited.

There were no public comments.

The meeting was called to discuss the 2024 fiscal year budget that will start on May 1, 2023. Commissioner Ward said he only wanted to discuss large items that each department wanted in the budget and didn't want to go line by line. Ward said he would do that later with each Commissioner.

Commissioner Butler said he would like to see a new dump truck for around $90,000.00 and two dump truck beds for a cost of $11,250.00 each for the street department along with finishing the shop building which would include concrete for $8,000.00, insulation for $9,000.00 and $1,500.00 for hear. Butler said they would need to look at a new backhoe and mowing tractor/bush hog for future budgets. Butler said he would like to see bass for Glenn Shoals Lake for a cost of $15,000.00, the final two payments for the disc golf course and two new mowers for the parks department.

Commissioner Gregory didn't have anything for the fire department but said he would like to see a new squad in the police department and new body cameras for an approximate cost of $75,000.00.

Commissioner Ward said he would like to see a generator installed for City Hall and the Police Department and there would be $50,000.00 in the budget that would be split between city hall and the police department.

Commissioner Wright said she put in $120,000.00 for NARP and $65,000.00 in new equipment for the sewer department along with $150,000.00 for lift station repairs and $80,000.00 for sewer line maintenance. Wright said in the water department she would like $160,000.00 for water main repairs and extensions, $110,000.00 for water meters and the last two water tower loan payments would come out of this budget.

Commissioner Ward asked the Community Planner what she needed in the budget for tourism and she said she would like to see $20,000 which would include web hosting for the Head to Hillsboro web page, online ads, print ads, principal maps for downtown, visitor guides and $12,000.00 for matching grants.

Motion to Adjourn was made at 5:12 pm by Commissioner Ward and seconded by

Commissioner Gregory. Motion carried 5-0.
