Rep. Mike Coffey (R-Springfield) is urging his constituents to share their views on what can be done for veterans.

In the news release posted to Coffey's website, which he linked in the Facebook post, he is asking individuals to reach out to him, and also consider joining a Veterans' Advisory Council, which would meet several times a year to discuss veteran issues and advise Coffey on policy matters.

“There are many policy issues that legislators must consider each year that impact veterans,” wrote Coffey in an April 30 Facebook post. “I would be honored to hear from local veterans and active military personnel about the challenges you and your families are facing as well as the things the state is doing well and not so well. Please share your thoughts below or confidentially message me here or through my website.”

Coffey was sworn into office as state representative of the 95th District in January, according to the Illinois General Assembly. He is an acute businessman as he previously led his family's Springfield restaurant Suputo's before founding Papa Frank's, along with cultivating economic growth in the Sangamon County area.

Coffey also hosted a "Coffee with Coffey" event on April 29, which he promoted in an April 28 Facebook post. He said: "If you have a few minutes to spare this coming Saturday morning, please stop by for free coffee and good conversations about issues important to you. Join us any time on April 29 between 8 am - 10 am at Mockingbird Bakery 129 S John Street in Rochester. Coffee with Coffey, Rochester"

On April 27, the representative met with the Blessed Sacrament Volleyball champions as well. He introduced the team from the floor of the House of Representatives after introducing the young women to House Minority Leader Tony McCombie (R-Savanna). The team had a 30-0 season record and won the state championship in a record two games.
