Bond County Community Unit School District 2 Board of Education met March 29.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Bond County Community Unity No. 2 held a special meeting on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, in the BCCU #2 Unit Office, 1004 Savannah Way, Greenville, IL. 

Board President Randi Workman called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. 

Those present were board members Frey, Reavis, Simmonds, Workman, and Zeeb. Others present were Superintendent Wes Olson; Executive Director of Business Operations Robert Koontz; Student Services/Special Education Director Terry Swalley; Facilities Director Mike Wilhite; Board Secretary Emily Laesch; WGEL Jeff Leidel; and Ernie Oakley. 

Board members Gerl and Prater were absent. 

Board member Frey left at 4:45 p.m. 

PUBLIC COMMENT There was no public comment. 

BID FOR STUDENTS SERVICES OFFICE ROOF  Motion by Zeeb, second by Simmonds, to accept the low bid for the Student Services  Office roof replacement from Joiner Sheet Metal & Roofing, as a cost not to exceed $128,900.00. Roll call vote: Frey, yes; Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 5-0. 

EXECUTIVE SESSION Motion by Reavis, second by Frey, that the board of education enter into executive  meeting at 4:11 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, specific individuals who serve as independent contractors, or specific volunteers of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee, a specific individual who serves as an independent contractor, or a volunteer of the District or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. Roll call vote: Frey, yes; Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 5-0. 

Motion by Zeeb, second by Reavis, that the board of education return to open session at 4:46 p.m. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

RESIGNATIONS Motion by Simmonds, second by Reavis, to accept the resignation of Taryn Flake as an Instructional Coach, effective at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 school year. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. (Frey, Gerl, and Prater absent). 

Motion by Zeeb, second by Simmonds, to accept the resignation of Nicholas Elam as the Yearbook Advisor at Greenville Elementary School, effective immediately. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

NEW HIRES - CERTIFIED Motion by Reavis, second by Simmonds, to hire Kelley Hopwood as the KRP Director for the 2023-2024 school year, as presented in Appendix A, to be paid with PFA, PFAE, and PI Grant funds. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

Motion by Simmonds, second by Zeeb, to hire Taryn Flake as a Part-Time Music Teacher at Pocahontas Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year, at her current salary placement. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

Motion by Reavis, second by Simmonds, to hire Hannah Jansen as a 5th Grade Teacher at Pocahontas Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year, with placement on the salary schedule at B+0, year 1. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

Motion by Zeeb, second by Simmonds, to transfer Laura Kapp from a KRP Classroom Teacher and hire her as an Elementary Special Education Teacher at Greenville Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year, at her current salary placement. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

Motion by Reavis, second by Zeeb, to hire Danielle Whitehead as a Middle School Special Education Teacher at Pocahontas Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year, with placement on the salary schedule at M+0, year 16. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

Motion by Simmonds, second by Reavis, to hire Shay Nelson as an Elementary Special Education Teacher at Greenville Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year, with placement on the salary schedule at M+32, year 19. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

Motion by Zeeb, second by Simmonds, to hire Olivia Hodges as a Speech Language Pathologist at Greenville and Pocahontas Elementary Schools for the 2023-2024 school year, with placement on the salary schedule at M+0, year 6. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

Motion by Reavis, second by Zeeb, to hire Hannah Hoffmann as a High School Special Education Teacher at BCCU #2 High School for the 2023-2024 school year, with placement on the salary schedule at B+16, year 3, pending completion of certification. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

Motion by Simmonds, second by Reavis, to transfer Heather Mueller from a KRP Classroom Teacher and hire her as the Pre-K Special Education Itinerant Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year, at her current salary placement. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

Motion by Zeeb, second by Simmonds, to transfer Kelli Cottrell from a 3rd Grade Teacher at Greenville Elementary School and hire her as the 6th-8th Grade English/Language Arts Teacher at Pocahontas Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year, at her current salary placement. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

NEW HIRES - NON-CERTIFIED Motion by Simmonds, second by Reavis, to hire Nichole Kendall as an Administrative Assistant at BCCU #2 High School, at the entry level rate as found in the GESPA contract. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

Motion by Zeeb, second by Simmonds, to hire Hannah Hoffmann as the Head Volleyball Coach at BCCU #2 High School for the 2023-2024 school year. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

VOLUNTEER COACHES Motion by Reavis, second by Zeeb, to approve the Volunteer Coaches for the 2022- 2023 school year as presented: Bass Fishing - Anthony Macon, Cole Miller, and Dennis Loskot. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0. 

ADJOURN Motion by Simmonds, second by Zeeb, that the meeting be adjourned at 4:52 p.m. Roll call vote: Reavis, yes; Simmonds, yes; Workman, yes; Zeeb, yes. Motion carried 4-0.
