City of Assumption Finance Committee met April 24.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall by Chairman Gary Nelsen.
Roll call was answered by Alderpersons Nelsen, Reed and Sullivan. Also present was Mayor Page, Treasurer Angel Palmer and City Clerk Janet Waller.
Present in the audience was Joyce Throneburg and Felicia King from the Golden Prairie News.
Alderperson Reed made a motion to approve the March 27, 2023 Finance Committee meeting minutes, seconded by Alderman Sullivan. Motion carried with Alderperson Nelsen, Reed and Sullivan voting aye and 0 nays.
Under old business:
Mayor Page updated the committee on 326 N Poplar. The owner would like to turn the property over to the City as they are unable to repair or demolish the house. A title search for liens will be done. There is an outstanding water bill for over $800 and the council will need to make a decision on the outstanding bill. The council will also need to decide if the City receives the property to sell it as is with conditions to demolish the house or if the City will need to demolish the house before selling.
Under new business:
The Central A&M school would like to have a Resource Officer. A preliminary contract was reviewed. The City will be responsible for 50 percent of the wages. The council will possibly vote on the resource office in June. May 15th is the school board meeting. The City will need to discuss providing the officer with a vehicle also.
A pledge of civility was reviewed and will be added to the agenda for council.
The TIF preliminary information was reviewed by the committee and will be placed on the agenda.
The committee reviewed the budget and made changes. There will be no Special Meetings in the future unless it cannot be avoided. The Christmas party and the IML meetings have been removed from the budget. Fireworks for 2024 were removed from the budget but have been added back in due to cutting the contingency from the budget. Funding for new vehicles was discussed also along with purchasing a new vehicle for possibly the water supt. The Police Chief is due for a raise and will be discussed during executive session. All other employees will get a standard 3 percent starting in June of 2024.
The cost to repair a pump was $2,928.50. Committee agreed to place on the agenda.
The cost will be approximately $1,000.00 for rock and sand for back fill near park entrance to cut and cap watermain.
Committee agreed to place the bid for watermain and lead service project on the agenda after the bid opening April 27 at 2:00 pm.
The Sanitary Sewer Phase 2 Disbursement for Peterburg Plumbing is $18,918.00. Public Comments:
