FOIA Request Sent to City Of Carlinville Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Carlinville Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.

The South Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Carlinville Finance Department in Illinois. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.

We are seeking access to records detailing the city's sales tax collection from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. Specifically, we have requested an electronic format list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city during this period. The requested information includes each business's name and type and the amount of sales tax they paid.

In addition to this, we have also asked for the total amount of sales tax that the city collected within the same timeframe.

As a media organization committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we believe that access to these public records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have therefore requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await response from the City Of Carlinville Finance Department regarding our request.
