FOIA Request Sent to City Of Vandalia Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City Of Vandalia Finance Department on October 31, 2024. The request, made by us at South Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage of local governmental affairs, sought detailed information about city sales tax records.

The specific records requested include a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. We asked for this list to contain the following fields: Business name, Business Type, and Amount of Sales Tax Paid.

In addition to the list of businesses and their respective tax contributions, we also requested information on the total amount of sales tax that the city collected within the same period.

As a media organization focused on transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to these public records is crucial for our work. We believe that these records will provide valuable insights into the financial health of local businesses and their contributions to the city's revenue through sales tax.

We have also stated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in gathering and disseminating information to the public. As always, we remain committed to providing our readers with accurate and timely information about local government affairs.
