Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10. Kirk, who was 31 years old, was struck by a single bullet as he prepared to speak to an audience mainly composed of college students.

On Friday, September 12, the FBI announced that a suspect had been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

The incident is part of a recent pattern of violence targeting political figures. In June, Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed in their home. This followed two assassination attempts against President Trump.

State Senator Plummer offered condolences to Kirk’s family and loved ones. He stated: "Violence has no place in political discourse." He also said: "To do anything other than condemn such violence and intolerance is unacceptable."

Plummer is a Republican who was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2023 to represent the state's 55th Senate District, succeeding Darren Bailey.
