Rankings: 10 worst funded pensions in South Central Illinois

Shutterstock 249974521

Pana, Staunton and Centralia have government pension funds with the lowest funding levels in South Central Illinois, according to the Illinois Department of Insurance.

If the amount a pension fund is obligated to pay pensioners outpaces the funds it has on hand, the fund is in the precarious position of carrying unfunded liabilities.

The healthiest funds have a funding position at or above 100 percent. Any fund whose position is below 100 percent is unable to meet its pension obligations.
