Report: Salem spent $7,943 per student in 2016-17

Spending per pupil at Salem School District 111 is up 3 percent from five years ago, according to a South Central Reporter analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2016-17 report card shows the Marion County school district spent $7,743 per pupil in 2012-13. It spent $7,943 in 2016-17.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 1055 to 1029.

Salem's spending in 2016-17 was 39 percent lower than the state average of $12,973.
