Pocahontas-O'Ld Ripley Fire Protection District responded to 21 calls in 2017 - 61.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Pocahontas-O'Ld Ripley included 18 fires - four structure fires, six vehicle fires and eight other fires.

In all, the department saw $263,000 in fire loss - or about $14,611 per fire.

The department also received three false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related death.
