Witt Volunteer Fire Department Inc responded to 20 calls in 2017 - 33.3 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Witt Inc included 14 fires - five structure fires, three vehicle fires and six other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $38,000 in fire loss - or about $2,714 per fire.

The department also received five false calls.
