Pana Community Unit School District 8 students suspended 58 times in a single school year

Pana Community Unit School District 8 reported 58 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 58 students during the year. That equates to 4.4 percent of the 1,312 students enrolled.

Of the 41 in-school suspensions, including 31 elementary or middle schoolers and 10 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 41 incidents. For 29 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 14 incidents. There were three incidents of drugs. For eight incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
