St. Elmo Community Unit School District 202 students suspended, expelled 184 times in a single school year

St. Elmo Community Unit School District 202 reported one expulsions and 183 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 184 students during the year. That equates to 40 percent of the 460 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with violence without physical injury.

Of the 167 in-school suspensions, 106 were given to boys and 61 were given to girls, including 36 elementary or middle schoolers and 131 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 167 incidents. For 87 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 14 incidents. There were one incidents of alcohol. For five incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
