HSHS St. Joseph?s Hospital Breese issued the following announcement on Sept. 28.

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese is pleased to announce the fall session of Look Good, Feel Better®. The fun, free, wellness workshop for women undergoing cancer treatment at any facility, will be Wednesday, October 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the HealthPlex Conference Room, just north of HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese. Parking is available at the HealthPlex.

Designed to help with the appearance-related side effects of radiation, chemotherapy and other cancer treatments, the Look Good Feel Better program is made possible through a collaboration of the Look Good Feel Better Foundation, the American Cancer Society (ACS), and the Professional Beauty Association. Even if cosmetics are rarely worn, the suggestions offered can be helpful. Participants receive free makeup kits, the opportunity to meet others going through similar experiences, refreshments, gifts and encouragement. The hospital’s Cancer Care Closet, with free wigs and information from the ACS, and wigs, hats, scarves and turbans from the community, will open to participants following the session.

“Look Good Feel Better is about so much more than appearance,” said Maggie Timmermann, Cancer Care Closet coordinator for the hospital. “When women arrive, they can seem overwhelmed by their diagnosis or scared about upcoming procedures. Some are simply tired of juggling it all. When the evening is over, everyone is smiling and seems to have found renewed energy. The sharing that takes place is what is important. I’ve had people come back saying it was the turning point in their treatment.”

Those attending this special “girls’ night out” take part in a makeover with cosmetology professionals who have received specialized training from the ACS in skin care, make-up and nails. Debra Dale of Making Waves Styling and Tanning Salon in Bartelso, and Dana Taylor of Dana’s Hair Creations in Beckemeyer, will help host the October session.

It is important that attendees register by noon on Monday, October 1. For information, or to register for the workshop, please leave contact information at 526-5672 or email Maggie Timmermann at maggie.timmermann@hshs.org or Megan Korte at Megan.Korte@hshs.org.
