HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital Breese issued the following announcement on Oct. 24.
On Saturday, October 13, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese’s local Share Group and Auxiliary held the Share Walk for Remembrance and Hope at Germantown’s Schoendienst Park. The event was held to raise awareness and remember those touched by the death of a baby or infant, and give an opportunity to openly acknowledge and remember their babies amongst family, friends and the bereavement community.
More than 300 walkers participated in the event, raising awareness and money to purchase the Angel of Hope statue to be placed in the upcoming Memorial Garden on St. Joseph’s Hospital grounds. The statue will symbolize hope, reflection and healing and will contain a water feature allowing children to send pennies to heaven.
Rev. Steven Barrett gave the keynote address; the morning’s observance also included a brief memorial service and an environmental friendly balloon release before the walk.
The Share Group generally meets the second Tuesday of each month in the hospital Board Room and is for parents and families who have lost a child. The Auxiliary supports the hospital Share program, providing funding for training and resources and supplying clothing and swaddling clothes to families who have lost an infant. For more information on the hospital Auxiliary, call 526-5351 or email judy.schrage@hshs.org.
