City of Centralia Tourism Commission met September 18.

Roll Call: The meeting was called to order by Tom Kasten at 3:30 pm. Members present for the meeting included Tom Kasten, Becky Ault, Julie Dunbar Myers, Leila Crain, Tom Walsh and Cathy Stuehmeier
Public Comment: None
Approval of the Minutes: A motion was made by Becky Ault and Seconded by Cathy Stuehmeier to approve the July 17, 2018 minutes as amended, all in favor, motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: Tom reported the balance of the tourism account was $32,530.63 as of 8/31/18. Kala reported that she contacted the Hotel/Motel Tax division within the State regarding Queen City Motel or Apartments and she stated they are currently investigating them. They had a report of them operating without collecting and reporting the hotel tax for rooms and the property is now listed as Gateway East Hospitality LLC but the address indicates it is still the same owners.
Old Business:
Kala stated that the Summer video is still in process and she is hoping to share the finished product soon. This will complete the 4 seasons of videos on the City of Centralia website.
Kala shared the lasted Tourism Times advertisement for Winter events, members pointed out changes to be made to the font and Kala was going to try and get the changes before press time. Kala also stated that she has went through the Annual Guide and reported changes in addresses and business openings and closings. Members also, made suggestions for the annual guide 1⁄2 page ad.
New Business:
Kala said now is the time to be accepting bids for tourism brochures if we wish to do so, it has been about 5 years. Members agreed they would like to bid.
Members discussed the upcoming events. Tom Kasten asked if they were needed for Celebrate Centralia. Kala stated that she had made an inquiry to that effect last week and was waiting for a response. She reminded the commission that last year several individuals had to take a training to be able to sell tickets for or serve alcohol and that those certifications are good for a couple years so she believed those individuals would be the volunteers. Otherwise a very lengthy training would be required to work. Kala stated she asked if there were any other positions they needed filled as far as volunteers go.
