KASKASKIA COLLEGE: Kaskaskia College to Host Illinois Dairy Summit on February 5

Kaskaskia College issued the following announcement on Jan. 8.

The 2019 Illinois Dairy Summit will be again be co-hosted by Kaskaskia College and will be held on Tuesday February 5 in the Life Long Learning Center on the college campus. The program theme is “Economic Strategies & Reproduction in 2019” and will feature dairy management information with helpful ideas on how to improve the bottom line in tough times. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. with the first speaker at 10:00 a.m.

Speakers will include Mike Hutjens and Phil Cardoso, U of I Extension Dairy Specialists; Dick Wallace DVM, Managing Veterinarian for Dairy Cattle Technical Services Zoetis; and Doug Yoder, Crop Agency Manager for Country. Program topics will focus on feeding strategies during unprofitable times; improving reproduction efficiency and use of genomic data to enhance dairy profits; nutritional aspects to improve fertility in dairy cows; and understanding the dairy revenue protection program. In addition, staff from Midwest Dairy Association and St. Louis District Dairy Council will provide an update on dairy checkoff programs. Numerous dairy industry service representatives will be attending to display their latest technology and management information.

Summit registration fees for dairy producers will be partially sponsored by Farm Credit Illinois and only cost $5.00 per dairy producer attending. This fee includes lunch and copy of the proceedings. Students will be free which is sponsored by Farm Credit Illinois. All other registrations are $15.00 person and fees will be collected at the door. The Illinois Dairy Summit, sponsored by Illinois Milk Producers’ Association and University of Illinois Extension, is an excellent opportunity to “take home” new ideas to put to work in your dairy operation. Please note the program at KC is being held on a Tuesday this year. Mark the date on your calendar and plan to attend.
