The price of local government in 2016: City of Girard

The City of Girard budget was $1.68 million for its 2016 fiscal year, or $2,350 per household.

That's an increase of 7.1 percent from 2015, when the city spent $1.57 million, or $2,195 per household.

Girard has 715 households and a population of 2,245.

Since 2001, the City of Girard budget has fallen by 71.8 percent, from $5.96 million. The city population has fallen 29.8 percent over the same period, from 3,200.

Salaries accounted for 34.4 percent of city spending in 2016. Girard property taxpayers paid $578,195 for 10 full-time employees and 25 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 15 full-time employees and three part-time employees, and spent $541,730.
