Illinois State House District 115 issued the following announcement on July 2

Murphysboro….State Representative Terri Bryant joined large crowds at events in Cambria and Marion Tuesday alongside a bipartisan group of State and local elected officials, labor union representatives and representatives of Walker’s Bluff for celebration ceremonies commemorating Governor JB Pritzker’s signature on legislation to expand gaming and invest $45 billion to pay for infrastructure needs. “Today is a day to celebrate an economic awakening in Southern Illinois,” Bryant said.

“The bipartisan nature of the capital infrastructure package and the legislation to authorize a gaming facility at Walker’s Bluff reveals just how badly Illinois needed a sweeping economic package. I applaud the Governor for his efforts to bring all sides to the table and for agreeing to significant economic reforms that will incentivize small businesses to locate in Southern Illinois and grow good paying jobs here.

“I want to offer my sincere congratulations to Cynde Bunch and her husband David for their years-long effort to build a consensus, petition their government, and find results for the people of our region,” Bryant said. “The Resort at Walker’s Bluff will be a jewel in the crown of Southern Illinois tourism and job creation. The best is yet to come.”

Governor Pritzker also signed legislation that contains details of more than $45 billion in investments to be made to roads, bridges, rail, and intermodal transportation. Representative Bryant also later joined a large crowd of labor union supporters and local elected officials for a rally in support of the capital plan.

“The energy in the room was about as high as the temperature,” Bryant said. “The folks that build our roads, that maintain our infrastructure, that support trades men and women have a lot to be excited about in the coming years in Illinois. We are making a record investment in rebuilding Illinois. Southern Illinois University will receive more than $100 million for renovations and infrastructure improvements. DuQuoin State Fair is receiving money for upgrades to infrastructure. And the highways and bi-ways of Southern Illinois south of I-70 will receive nearly $1 billion in road and bridge construction funding. All these projects mean more good paying jobs for hard working Southern Illinoisans and their families. Today will be remembered as a day that Illinois began a long climb back to being one of the most prosperous states in the Country.”
