CITY OF BREESE: Dist 12 Bobcats Advance in State Class "M" Tourney

City of Breese issued the following announcement on Feb. 8.

The Breese District 12 boys basketball team opened the Class M state tournament at Rend Lake College with a 44-31 win over Goreville. The win moved the Bobcats to 21-7 on the season. Goreville finished 24-4.

The Bobcats were down 18-11 in the second quarter. Breese went on an 11-0 run to take a 22-18 lead. The Bobcats led 22-20 at halftime.

Breese outscored Goreville 10-2 in the third quarter to take a 32-22 lead into the fourth quarter. Breese outscored Goreville 12-9 in the fourth quarter.

Zane Schrage led Breese with 19 points. Brody Zobrist had 11 points. Derek Von Bokel had six points. Nick Helmink and Austin Thole both had four points.

The Bobcats play Joseph Arthur in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Joseph Arthur beat Pinckneyville 55-41.

In other opening-round games on Friday, Chester beat Eldorado 51-32 and Wolf Branch beat Fairfield 64-43.
