City of Breese issued the following announcement on March 10.
The Clinton County Historical Society is proud to present "The Twelve Ladies in Lincoln's Life", a talk given by Professor Emeritus of English, Dr. Dan Guillory. The program will take place on Sunday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at the Society's museum, 1091 Franklin Street, in Carlyle.
Twelve ladies (including Lincoln's mother, his sweetheart, and his wife) played a part in determining the values and personality of Abraham Lincoln. Dr. Guillory will use words from some of Lincoln's actual letters to depict the relevance of these women's lives to Lincoln.
Dr. Guillory is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Tulane University. He served as a Fulbright Professor in Gabon, West Africa from 1989 to 1990 and was a reviewer for "Library Journal" from 1975 to 1990. From 1972 to 2004, he taught at Milliken University. He has published ten books. His book "The Lincoln Poems" is on permanent display in the Ford Theater Museum in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Guillory's books will be available for purchase the day of his presentation. Admission is free.
