The Montgomery County Health Department is seeking volunteers to join its Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).
County health officials are inviting medical and non-medical personnel to join the volunteer-based program. Volunteers prepare to respond to natural disasters and disease outbreaks, The Journal-News reported.
The health department may activate MRC volunteers to staff outside health clinics and perform mental health interventions. They give briefings for resident and first responders. They may help at health fairs, coordinate drills and also take part in community service events.
When an emergency occurs, the health department will activate volunteers. The coordinator matches schedules and capabilities with the local demand. Anyone who volunteers for the Medical Reserve Corps. will receive free training.
The MRC is not being activated now, according to Journal-News reported. Those who want to join can ask for an application to be mailed to them by emailing mchdmrc949@gmail.com or by calling 217-532-2001.
