Chicago (24,864 cases) and Cook County (17,460 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,009, while Cook County recorded 777 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 319,313, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 50 to 59, with 11,672 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 29,497 were male and 30,765 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 1,513, while female deaths stood at 1,103.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 1,096 African-Americans, 379 Hispanics, 111 Asians, 1,096 whites, and 128 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
