City of Centralia Parks & Cemetery Advisory Committee met Feb. 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

I. Call to Order

II. Pledge of Allegiance & Opening Prayer

Public Participation No public participation – Harting did let the committee know that she had met with Alec Chandler and Mayor Williams regarding the request brought to this committee last year from Matthew Patrick on behalf of 2nd Baptist Church. Mr. Chandler let the Mayor and Gayla know that Mr. Patrick would no longer be the contact person for the church and that he would be the one that the City should speak to. After the meeting Harting let Chandler know that she would be more than happy to attend a meeting when the church was ready to move forward with their outreach program at Laura Leake Park or any other area within the City. Harting has not heard back from the Church at this time.

VII. New Business

• Election of Officers The Mayor will be making some new appoints within the next couple of months and the Committee will wait until the new committee list is established before electing officers.

• Harting updated committee of the expansion of this year’s Juneteenth Celebration that is in the planning process with others in the community. Harting let the group know that Carleka Spann, that oversaw Rock the Block last year, will be joining the Celebration this year vs having it on a different weekend. This committee will still be doing the same activities as in prior years and we’ll be volunteering as to what activity each member will be helping with. Harting is very pleased that not only with the activities be expanding but also the days. The Juneteenth committee that has met, hope to do at least a 2 day event, if not 3. Harting let them know Committee member Lawson is also on that Committee and will be one of two people that are the Church liaisons. Harting gave those two the letters that she had sent to churches in the past. Committee member Quidgeon is on the committee and will be the contact person with Tourism and possible use of the City Trolley. Harting also serves and will have various duties and serve as the liaison between the city, this committee and the newly formed committee.
