State Senators Jason Plummer and Steve McClure have expressed their disapproval following the signing of Senate Bill 19 by Governor Pritzker. The bill, which introduces changes to the Illinois Prisoner Review Board (PRB), has sparked controversy.
In a joint statement, both senators criticized the decision: “After the Governor ignored our consistent and clear warnings, a horrible murder was triggered by a terrible decision by the Prisoner Review Board (PRB). Now, instead of listening to a bipartisan coalition at the capitol, he and his far-left allies pushed through a bill that makes it more difficult for the PRB to keep violent criminals off the streets."
The senators further commented on how this legislation affects accountability: “It also shields PRB members from being held accountable by the Senate, which has a duty to vet the members in a timely manner. This is the exact response that we would expect from a Governor who has repeatedly shown no concern for victims and disdain for those who prioritize public safety."
They concluded with concerns about public safety: "This is a dangerous decision driven by the Governor’s political desire to keep activists happy rather than prioritize the safety of our communities.”
