City of Salem Tourism Board met March 9.

Call to Order

The Salem Tourism Board met Monday, March 9, 2020 at Salem City Hall. Bob Haney called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm. Present were board members Rick Russ, Dana Hampton, Leon Chapman and Recording Secretary Cindy Eller.

Minutes

The minutes of the February 10, 2020 meeting was presented for action. Leon Chapman made a motion to approve the minutes. Rick Russ seconded the motion. Motion carried by voice vote without opposition.

Treasurer's Report

The Treasurer's Reports for December 2019 and January 2020 were presented for action. Rick Russ made a motion to approve the reports. Leon Chapman seconded the motion. Motion carried by voice vote without opposition.

Presentation of Petitions/Public Comments

Grant application was presented from the Salem Antique Power Days to assist with their event to be held September 10- 13, 2020. The consensus of the Board was since this was an established event, they could not give the full amount requested. Leon Chapman made a motion to approve the grant request in the amount of $500.00. Rick Russ seconded the motion. Motion carried by voice vote without opposition.

Jessica Coleman, Director of the Chamber of Commerce, told the Board that plans were underway to hold a May Market at the fairgrounds in Salem May 8 - 9. Coleman explained this type of event is "trending" and expected to draw large crowds coming to Salem to spend money. As of now, the Chamber has 20 - 25 vendors coming and are hoping to have a total of 80.

Rick Russ made a motion to approve the grant application from the Chamber of Commerce for $2,000.00 to assist with their event to be held May 8 - 9,2020. Dana Hampton seconded the motion. Motion carried by voice vote without opposition.

Letter of resignation was read from Board Member Nancy Meyer effective March 8, 2020 because she is moving from Salem.

Adjournment

As there was no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 5:20 p.m.
