PANA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL: Quad County Celebrates

Celebration

Pana Community Hospital issued the following announcement on Sept. 22.

Quad County has many reasons to celebrate but currently some of the most special reasons are for those who have recovered from COVID-19 that have been in the care of Quad County’s professional staff. Quad County Director, Tom Culberson wanted to have a visual way to honor each patient that has recovered. In Chinese culture the pinwheel signifies “turning one’s luck around” so Culberson thought that a display of pinwheels would be a perfect way to recognize those recovered. “This display is for the public to visually celebrate a patient who has beat COVID, but possibly more importantly it is a reminder to our nurses and staff, as they come to the office each day, of the important role they are playing in our fight against this virus,” stated Culberson. “It has been a morale booster for staff as well as patients.”

Quad County’s role in recovery for COVID patients is unique to Pana Community Hospital’s home health and one of the only programs of its’ kind in the surrounding area. Quad County has dedicated nurses who contact patients who have been tested for COVID19. If the patient tests positive, they are offered telemonitoring and access to the home health afterhours number to provide the support they need through the healing process. Patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 can be have a wide range of symptoms. Sometimes the symptoms and their severity change daily, sending patients on an emotional roller coaster. By staying in contact with the patient via video or phone calls, Quad County nurses can assess the patient, answer questions and even come into the home for an evaluation if needed.

The pandemic has changed many things but Quad County has continued to provide professional personal care to home health and hospice patients, as well as providing medical equipment for the health and wellbeing of customers. “I am very proud of the staff members who are working hard to go the extra mile and help in any way they are needed. We are very fortunate to have such an innovative and skilled team to care for the people in our communities” Culberson concluded.
