Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) questioned the Illinois State Board of Education's “culturally responsive" teaching standards.
He cited that with the current situation, there is already a definite shortage of teachers which he says has been brought about by the ever-changing regulations.
“The confusing and inconsistent implementation of the governor's mitigation at the various county’s health departments at the state of Illinois is causing the entire teaching staff to quarantine for a week or two at a time,” Niemerg said. This causes the school to rely on substitute teachers to try to manage the remote learners as well as the in-class learners.”
Implementing this rule he believes is unworkable, unmeasurable, and will only exacerbate the situation with the basics already being neglected.
While there are current challenges and limitations in providing the students the tools to meet their basic skills, ‘Teachers are now being asked to implement a progressive approach in viewpoint to their everyday lessons,” he said.
The proposal is asking the teachers to focus on activism while the quality of education is already failing, he said.
The teaching standards being proposed by ISBE according to Niemerg will not make the students hopeful and aspirational.
Niemerg urges the community to reach out to JCAR and plead with them, “Enough is enough, this is not education, this is indoctrination.”
