Kaskaskia College issued the following announcement on Feb. 23.
The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met Monday, February 22, 2021, for its regular monthly meeting. Board members included Bill Hawley (Odin), Linda Stover (Centralia), Bryan Holthaus (Carlyle), Laura Wedekemper (Shattuc), Louis Kalert (Centralia), Jim Mason (Breese), and Larissa Hoffman (Student Trustee). Jim Beasley (Centralia) was absent.
For the second year in a row, Kaskaskia College will maintain its current tuition and fee rate for the upcoming 2021-22 academic year. The board approved keeping KC’s tuition and fee rate of $152 and commended administration and staff for working to remove potential financial barriers which students and prospective students might face.
“We continue to strive to provide high-quality education and to remain incredibly affordable,” said Kaskaskia College President George Evans. “Now more than ever we see the need to continue to keep tuition affordable for all of our populations. Thanks to our Board for supporting us and a special thanks to administrative services and student services for working together to keep our tuition rates the same.”
The Barnes and Noble College agreement was approved by the board to provide college bookstore management services and approve the course material charges of $24 per credit hour, effective fall 2021. The new credit hour charge will present a reduction of up to 35-45% on textbook course materials for students.
Trustees awarded the bid of the Agricultural Education Center Solar PV System Project to Tick Tock Energy, Inc. of Effingham, IL in the amount of $91,977. The board rejected the lower bid submitted by Windfree Wind & Solar Energy Design due to no responsiveness in completing all the bid documents.
Additionally, the board awarded the exterior wayfinding signage project to T. Hamm Sign Company of Mt. Vernon, Illinois in the amount of $27,329.34 with CGL Electric of Centralia, IL in the amount of $5,500. With construction management fees and architectural/engineering fees, the total project estimate is $46,131.18. The project will include the addition of monument-style wayfinding signage throughout KC’s main campus, including internally illuminated signage on site.
In personnel matters, the board:
• Approved the hires of Kaylee Hilmes as an Assistant Professor of Nursing, Megan Frey as an Assistant Professor of Nursing, Seth Orrill as Food Service Manager, Rebecca Hemker as Financial Aid Specialist, Bridget McConnell as Human Resources Generalist, and Charlee George as SEALs Coach: Career and Academic Advisor.
• Approved the employment transfers of Kathy Crain from IT Services and Support Coordinator to Purchasing Coordinator, Don Bade from Safety and Security Officer to Assistant Director of Public Safety, and Jody Roper from KC Retention Specialist to Retention and Online Student Success Coordinator.
• Accepted the resignations of Laura Mondy, Assistant Professor of Computer Information Technology, and Sara Wiechert, Assistant Bookstore Manager.
