Greenville University issued the following announcement on Aug. 30
An impression, a nudge, an awareness—something moves your thoughts in an unexpected direction. Whoa, where did that come from? you think as you process the invasion. In a moment you feel the urge to call a particular person, or speak particular words, or ask a particular question.
That something, according to a new book by former Greenville University President Ivan Filby, may very well be the Holy Spirit inviting you to work with God in the moment.
Livestream: Learning to Minister in the Power of the Holy Spirit (Seedbed, 2021) welcomes readers into a lifelong journey of learning how to listen and respond to the Spirit’s voice. It fills two voids in faith literature today:
1. It engages laypersons in Spirit-directed ministry.
2. It encourages “everyday people” to step out and minister in this way.
Livestream speaks especially to persons just beginning the journey of pressing into the Spirit.
“Most books on the Holy Spirit are written by folk in church ministry,” Filby said. “I want to encourage the other 99 percent of people who are not called into full-time Christian ministry, but who can still learn to minister effectively in the Holy Spirit’s power.”
He also noted that books about the Holy Spirit often come from “super-anointed folk” who seem to be in a league of their own experientially.
“They inspire, but they share no real road map that helps others move from where they are to where they want to be.”
Though not a “how-to” manual per se, Livestream does identify markers that point readers in the right direction. It blends scripture and relatable stories with Filby’s warmth and experience to achieve a reader-friendly guide. As J.D. Walt, Jr. states in its foreword, the book captures “the wisdom, witness, and testimony of a man of God who has walked with Jesus for many years.”
Many of the experiences Filby shares flow from his years serving at Greenville University.
Livestream: Learning to Minister in the Power of the Holy Spirit is available on Amazon and Seedbed.
