Albers School District 63 Board of Education met May 26.

CALL TO ORDER
President Huegen called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Roll call shows: Athmer, present; Boeckmann, present; Huegen, present; Richter, present; Winterbottom, present; Wuebbels, arrived @ 7:35 PM. Everyone in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
VISITORS
Tiffany Zurliene and Casey Thole were present. Recording Secretary Janel Zurliene and Superintendent Mike Toeben were present.
PUBLIC COMMENT
There was no public comment.
APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA
Athmer made the motion to approve the agenda. Richter made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.
BOOSTER CLUB
• TJs Pizza fundraiser pickup was May 12, 2021. The estimated profit was over $3,000.00
• Field day is being planned for May 28, 2021 with the 1:40 PM dismissal.
• New officers include: Amy Haselhorst & Lori Catanzaro, Co-Presidents; Kelly Macias & Leigha Steuart, Co-Vice Presidents; Janine Albers-Hubert, Treasurer; Megan Porterfield, Secretary.

• BUILDING & GROUNDS, Winterbottom, Boeckmann, Jung – Mr. Toeben is working on the memorial bench placement for future donations.

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS –
Boeckmann made the motion to approve the minutes from the April 27, 2021 regular and reorganizational meeting; approve and seal the executive session minutes from April 27, 2021; approve the minutes with the addition of Patrick Allen in attendance on May 5, 2021 meeting; approve the financial report; approve the bills in the amounts of $ 62,548.19. Athmer made the second motion. Roll call votes shows: Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, absent; Athmer, aye.
OLD BUSINESS
• MAINTAINANCE GRANT / SUMMER PROJECTS – The parking lot and sidewalk work will be performed as weather allows.
• COVID – 19 UPDATES & PROCEDURES – Athmer made the motion to not require masks for the 2021-2022 school year unless mandated by state officials. Boeckmann made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.
• CARES ACT FUNDING – The school will receive additional funding with a July 1, 2021 announcement. More information will be shared as it is received. Summer school at the end of July may be used with this grant. Teachers will make recommendations for students to attend. Other recommended items include: IXL Math series; phone system.
• IEA/NEA CONTRACT – The current contract is expiring in August 2021. Mr. Glynn and Mrs. Recker are the staff representatives. Winterbottom, Wuebbels and Richter volunteered to represent the Board of Education. Kurt Rickhoff volunteered to assist as well. The letter of intent to negotiate was received from the Albers IEA/NEA.
• ASBESTOS/BOILER REMOVAL – This item was tabled.
• BUILDING APPRAISAL – The appraisal is scheduled for the end of June 2021.
• EMPLOYMENT – Richter made the motion to pay a partial coach stipend to Spencer Campbell, $500.00 for his assistance with the boys’ basketball program. Jung made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, absent; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye.
• RESIGNATION – Athmer made the motion to accept the resignation of Kimberly Runge. Jung made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.
• EMPLOYMENT, SCIENCE TEACHER – This item was tabled.
• EMPLOYMENT, KITCHEN – Athmer made the motion to employ Peggy Fehrmann as the substitute assistant. Boeckmann made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, absent; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye.
• EMPLOYMENT, SUMMER CLEANING – Athmer made the motion to hire Carson Rickhoff for summer cleaning. Richter made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, absent; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye, Jung, aye.
NEW BUSINESS
• SET BUDGET AMENDMENT HEARING – Richter made the motion to set the Budget Amendment Hearing for June 23, 2021 at 6:45 PM. Athmer made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.
• FEES 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR – Athmer made the motion to have the fees remain the same as 2020-2021 school year. Wuebbels made the second motion. Registration & Book fee $90.00; student lunch $2.50; adult lunch $3.00; milk or juice $0.40; grades 5- 8 ala Carte $1.50; technology grades 5-8 $50.00. Roll call vote shows: Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye, Jung, aye.
• BUS CONTRACT 2021 - 2022 SCHOOL YEAR – Athmer made the motion to approve the contract with Zurliene Bus Service with the addition of the clause of payment reduction if remote learning is enforced. Winterbottom made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye, Jung, aye; Richter, aye.
• HAZARDOUS ROUTE 2021 - 2022 SCHOOL YEAR – Richter made the motion to approve the hazardous route including homes south of Route 161 and east of Aviston Road. Athmer made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.
• HANDBOOK REVISIONS 2021 – 2022 SCHOOL YEAR – All board members received a copy of the current handbook and suggested changes. Additional changes or recommendations should be sent to Mr. Toeben. The staff has also been reviewing the handbook for changes.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Mr. Toeben shared information regarding items on the agenda.
• The current summer school roster has 24 students from teacher recommendations.
• In-person registration for all students will be July 21, 2021, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• The first day for the 2021-2022 school year will be Teacher Institute on August 12 and first student attendance day is Monday, August 16, 2021.
• Mr. Toeben shared a survey he would like to share with students and parents for his doctoral program. The board gave permission to allow him to contact students and parents.
• The board training synopsis report from Patrick Allen, IASB, was reviewed.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Winterbottom made a motion to enter into the executive session at 8:06 PM. Boeckmann made the second motion. Roll call shows: Athmer, present; Boeckmann, present; Huegen, present; Jung, present; Richter, present; Winterbottom, present; Wuebbels, present. Mr. Toeben was also present.
Athmer made a motion to exit the executive session at 9:13 PM. Richter made the second motion. Roll call shows: Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye.
ADJOURNMENT
