Albers School District 63 Board of Education met Nov. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

Roll call shows: Athmer, present; Boeckmann, present; Huegen, present; Jung, present; Richter, absent; Winterbottom, present. Everyone in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

VISITORS

Christelle Bretz, Tiffany Zurliene, Susan Scott, Ben Hubler, Carter Hubler, Dean Gauch, Kelly Klasing, Journey Klasing, Emree Athmer, Kellen Hubert, Tricia Hubert, Tim Catanzaro, Lori Catanzaro, Scott McDonald were present. Recording Secretary Janel Zurliene and Superintendent Mike Toeben were also present.

PUBLIC COMMENT

There was no comment.

APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

Wuebbels made the motion to approve the agenda with the addition of new business – Student Council presentation. Jung made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

BOOSTER CLUB

• New officers include: Amy Haselhorst & Lori Catanzaro, Co-Presidents; Kelly Macias & Leigha Steuart, Co-Vice Presidents; Janine Albers-Hubert, Treasurer; Megan Porterfield, Secretary.

• A SCRIP order will be offered monthly. Contact Christelle Bretz for more information.

• Concession stand is going well.

• Mrs. Smith’s fundraiser orders have been collected.

COMMITTEE REPORTS & ASSIGNMENTS

• BUILDING & GROUNDS, Winterbottom, Boeckmann, Jung – The freezer has been ordered with an estimated delivery of 8-10 weeks.

• TECHNOLOGY, Athmer and Wuebbels – An estimated grant of $29,000.00 may be available for digital technology items. A request has been made for additional WIFI access points, additional hot spots, additional Chromebooks and cases, additional IPADS.

• SPORTS CO-OP/FRIENDS OF THE COUGARS - Richter, Boeckmann – There is nothing at this time.

• SAFETY – There is nothing at this time.

• CAT TEAM – There is nothing at this time.

• FINANCE – Huegen, Wuebbels, Boeckmann

• KASKASKIA COLLEGE COMMITTEE – Huegen, Richter, Athmer

• SIP – Mrs. Zurliene is working on the self-care SIP workshop for January 3, 2022.

• PARENT ADVISORY BOARD – There is nothing at this time.

• BULLYING – There is nothing at this time.

TEACHER REPORTS

• There is nothing at this time.

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS

Athmer made the motion to approve the executive session minutes from the September 22, 2021 and seal them; October 27, 2021 regular meeting minutes, approve and seal the executive session minutes from October 27, 2021; approve the financial report; approve the bills in the amount of $ 36,157.02. Boeckmann made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, absent; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye.

OLD BUSINESS

• COVID – 19 UPDATES & PROCEDURES –Mr. Toeben shared information on current students that are exposed, quarantined or positive. Everyone was given the opportunity to share their concerns regarding the mask policies and use of the masks at school. Lori Catanzaro shared concerns about the lack of masks at basketball games. Mr. Toeben will announce at all games that masks must be worn at all times by players and fans. The “Make It Local” group meets weekly on Zoom. Mr. Toeben will research more information about the Local Control information as well as reach out to Tom DeVore. Athmer made the motion to make masks optional, not mandated. Boeckmann made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Jung, nay; Richter, absent; Winterbottom, nay; Wuebbels, nay; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, nay. Students and staff will adhere to the mask mandate. The Christmas concert will be help with students social distanced. One song will be sung without masks then masks will be worn again.

• CARES ACT FUNDING – This item was tabled.

• ASBESTOS/BOILER REMOVAL – This item was tabled.

• AUDIT REPORT – This item was tabled.

• TAX LEVY – Mr., Toeben shared information regarding the Tax Levy. We are still waiting for the EAV numbers from the Clinton County Assessor.

• BOWLING – A letter of participation will be sent home to all students in Grades 7 & 8.

• EMPLOYMENT – All positions were tabled.

NEW BUSINESS

• PRESS POLICY – The first reading was held.

• KINDERGARTEN TEACHER 2022-2023 – Athmer made the motion to advertise “in house” and post externally with starting salary information. Winterbottom made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Jung, aye; Richter, absent; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye.

• ENGAGEMENT SURVEY – This item was tabled for next month.

• E-LEARNING – Wuebbels made the motion to set the E-learning hearing for December 15, 2021 at 6:45 PM. Athmer made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

• STUDENT COUNCIL – Emree Athmer and Kellen Hubert spoke on behalf of the students and the Student Council. They shared a video presentation about the request to install a Gaga Pit at the school. The Student Council have an estimate of $650.00 - $850.00 to build the Gaga pit and have funds available pay for it. Athmer made the motion to allow the Student Council to install and provide a Gaga Pit on the school playground. Jung made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Mr. Toeben shared information regarding items on the agenda.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Athmer made a motion to enter into the executive session at 8:56 PM. Jung made the second motion. Roll call shows: Athmer, present; Boeckmann, present; Huegen, present; Jung, present; Richter, absent; Winterbottom, present; Wuebbels, present. Mr. Toeben was also present.

Athmer made a motion to exit the executive session at 9:28 PM. Winterbottom made the second motion. Roll call shows: Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, absent; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, aye.

ADJOURNMENT
