Beavers Drop Conference Match to Westminster

Blackburn Men's Soccer dropped a conference match to Westminster College on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays defeated the Beavers by a final score of 4-2.

Westminster was quick to take the lead when Adam Luetkemeyer scored a free kick as a result of a foul from the Beavers. Luetkemeyer scored at the 12:24 mark, and not long after, Travis Bieg extended Westminster's lead to 2, when he drained a shot from across the goalbox.

At halftime, the Beavers trailed 2-0, and had only managed to take one shot during the half.

Westminster scored their third goal on a crossing pass from Nolan Deane, and Niklas Olsson slipped the ball just past the outreached arms of Beavers goalkeeper, Aidan Hamerlinck. The ball knocked into the goal off the upright, and the Blue Jays were up 3-0.

At the 62:28 mark, Levi Yudinksy scored off a contested punt from Hamerlinck. After a scuffle for the ball, Yudinsky nailed a shot to the left of Westminster's goalkeeper, Toby Hughes. Just minutes after this goal, at the 64:35 mark, the Beavers were able to collect another goal and cut Westminster's lead to one. Nicholas Vaughn nailed a line drive kick into the back of the net off of a perfect pass from Jamie Jose Pineda. With momentum in their favor, things were looking up for the Beavers.

However, Westminster secured the win when they scored their fourth goal late in the game. Adam Luetkemeyer scored his second of the game and extended the Blue Jay lead to two at the 79:58 mark.

With this loss, Blackburn moves to an overall record of 4-4-3, and 1-3-3 in the SLIAC. Their next contest will be on Saturday, October 8th. The Beavers will be heading to Louisville to take on Spalding University. The game is set to kickoff at 2:00 p.m. EST.
