City of Assumption Water/Wastewater Committee met June 27.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Meeting called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Alderperson Walden at City Hall.

Water Committee members present were Alderpersons Walden, Smith and Burgess. Also present was Mayor Page, Water Supt Jack Duncan, Water Collector Tanya Rhoades and City Clerk Janet Waller.

Present in the audience was Mark Bingham from Chastain and Associates, Joyce Throneburg, Dan Davis and John Holthaus.

Alderperson Burgess made a motion to approve the May 17, 2022 Water/Wastewater Committee meeting minutes, seconded by Alderperson Smith. Motion carried with Alderperson Burgess, Smith and Walden voting aye and 0 nays.

Under Old Business:

The City continues to wait on the US EPA for the next steps on the new water plant. Under New Business:

Water Supt updated the committee regarding Sloan’s. Horton’s Plumbing used a camera at Sloan’s and they continue to try to figure out the storm water and sanitary sewer service. The cost was $1160.00.

Petersburg Plumbing continues to work on the punch list for Sanitary Sewer Phase 1.

The bid opening for Sanitary Sewer Phase 2 was held on June 15. The committee agreed to place an intent to award the bid on the agenda at council. The bid was from Petersburg Plumbing for $6,891,329.00. More information will be discussed at the pre-construction meeting such as the maintenance of the slag pile.

Mark explained the ordinance for borrowing will need to be placed on the agenda for an amendment due to the increased costs. Mark discussed there should be a surplus in the budget and there will be more information later.

Mark also noted forgiveness has been increased to a million dollars due to increasing prices. The Larochelle Project will begin boring in the next couple days.

A disbursement for Burdick is $59,344.97 for the Larochelle Project.

The water leak at College and Second Street will be repaired in the near future. Moweaqua may assist.

The inspections were done at the Water Towers and a report should be done in next 3 weeks.

Well 11 was cleaned and an emergency repair was done for $2,300.00. The pump was cleaned and serviced but may need replaced during the next cleaning in a couple of years.

The nitrate vessels are plumbed in the water plant but we continue to wait on a partial permit. The cost of installation was $18,468.00.

Mark would like to ask for a time extension for 90 days thru September 10, 2022 for the lead replacement. The committee agreed to send to council.

The cost of a service bed for the Water Supt’s truck is $3,000 and $1,200 to install. The committee agreed to send to council.

Mark discussed watermains and would like to advertise projects in the next few months. Mark also discussed the CBDG upcoming grants.

Mark handed out a packet on the potential subdivision with preliminary costs. 312 W Samuel has a hole in the front yard and needs to be addressed.

Public Comments:

The public questioned when the next step will be for the potential subdivision.

The meeting adjourned at 7:18 pm.
