COWAN EARNS FIRST CCAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Senior guard Angelique Cowan put up 30-plus points in a pair of games during a seven-day period to earn first ever CCAC player of the week honors.
On Tuesday, November 22, Cowan was nothing short of amazing producing almost half of the Jaguars points against Indiana University South Bend. She shot 52.9 percent from the field (10-19) and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line (10-12). Cowan also brought down five rebounds and dished out four assists playing a total of 33 minutes on the night.
Having a second 30 plus point game is what solidify her nomination. Sunday afternoon against Lawrence Tech, Cowan scored a game-high, season high, and career high tallying 34 points. She also added 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Cowan shot 55.6 percent from the field (10-18), 57.1 percent from behind the arc (4-7), and 100 percent from free throw (10-10). Cowan produce over 60 percent of GSU's points for the game, which landed her Siena Heights All- Tournament Honors.
Over three games combined Cowan averaged 21.3 points per game on 50 percent shooting from the field (20-of-40) and a near-perfect 20-of-22 mark from the free throw line. She also averaged 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals per outing.
"Angie is built for this. She worked for three years for this moment. I am proud that her hard work is paying off," said GSU Head Coach Tonishea Mack. "I am fortunate to coach a player with her skill set and it will not surprise if she earns more. Well deserved".
The 5-foot 7 senior guard will be back in action when the Jaguars take on cross town rivals Roosevelt University at 1:00 p.m. in the ARC.
