Aviston School District 21 Board of Education met Oct. 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1. Call to Order—5:30 pm 

a. Roll Call 

a. Members present: Thole, Voss, Eversgerd, Kohnen, Schulte, Strubhart. Members absent: Toennies 

b. Non-Members present: Superintendent Hamil, Principal Niemeyer, Shelly Albers 

b. Pledge of Allegiance 

2. Old Business 

a. Consideration to Approve Geotechnical Services 

a. Motion by Schulte, second by Eversgerd to approve Geotechnical  Services Contract by Quality Testing and Engineering, Inc. at a cost of  $5,350. 

b. Roll Call: Thole, aye; Voss, aye; Eversgerd, aye; Kohnen, aye; Strubhart, aye; Schulte, aye. None opposed. Toennies absent. 

b. Consideration to Approve Land Survey Services 

a. Motion by Kohnen, second by Schulte to approve Land Survey Services by TWM, Inc. at a cost of $12,000. 

b. Roll Call: Thole, aye; Voss, aye; Eversgerd, aye; Kohnen, aye; Strubhart, aye; Schulte, aye. None opposed. Toennies absent. 

c. Consideration to Approve Design Team Services 

a. Motion by Kohnen, second by Schulte to approve Design Team Services by FGM Architects, Inc. at a cost of $336,750. 

b. Roll Call: Thole, aye; Voss, aye; Eversgerd, aye; Kohnen, aye; Strubhart, aye; Schulte, aye. None opposed. Toennies absent. 

d. 1% Sales Tax Resolution (Discussion Only) 

a. The Board discussed the priority of increasing revenue for the Education Fund to onboard more teachers/staff as the building and enrollment  expands. With the 1% sales tax revenue, it can be applied to pay bond debt for facilities and facilities improvements. The Board plans to  move forward with an Education Fund referendum in April 2023 to  address the revenue needed for expanding educational needs in the  district.

3. New Business - None 

4. **Closed Session - Closed session may be used to discuss contract negotiations, employee issues and other items as deemed necessary by the board and as approved in 5 ILCS 120/2 of the Open Meetings Act. 

a. No Closed Session was held. 

5. Adjournment 

a. Motion by Thole, second by Schulte to adjourn the October 26, 2022 special meeting at 5:47 pm. 

b. All in favor, None opposed, Toennies absent.
