City of Salem Tourism Board met Nov. 14.

Call to Order

The Salem Tourism Board met Monday, November 14, 2022 at Salem City Hall. Chairman Jacob Hockett called the meeting to order at 4:53 pm. Present were board members Leon Chapman, Sherry Morton, Brooke Frederick, Joy Conner, Janelle Smith and Secretary Suetta Oulrey

Minutes

The minutes of the October 10, 2022 meeting were presented for action. Sherry Morton made a motion to approve the minutes. Joy Conner seconded the motion. AYES: Leon Chapman, Sherry Morton, Brooke Frederick, Joy Conner, Janelle Smith, and Chairman Jacob Hockett. NAYS: None. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report

The Treasurer’s Report for October 2022 were presented for action. Leon Chapman made a motion to approve the report. Brooke Frederick seconded the motion. AYES: Sherry Morton, Brooke Frederick, Joy Conner, Janelle Smith, Leon Chapman and Chairman Jacob Hockett.

NAYS: None. Motion carried.

Presentation of Petitions/Public Comments

Christine Orr ILLINOISouth

Christine gave a presentation on advertising for 2023 to see if Tourism was interested in advertising again. Christine at ILLINOISouth is offering 25% off for Tourism Guide and 20% off Tourism Times. Joy Conner asked what the difference was between the Guide and the Times. Christine Orr explained that the Tourism Times is smaller about 29 to 30 pages and the Visitors Guide is roughly 74 pages and comes out every January. Sherry Morton asked Christine how much and the size of the ad ILLINOISouth had gave them the last two publications. Christine explained that is roughly $750.00 and it is what they call a remnant size. Leon Chapman would like the ½ page ad to be horizontal instead of vertical. Everyone on the board agreed to the horizontal. Christine suggested just months no dates. Brooke Frederick suggested Sweeney Corner for a colorful picture. Janelle Smith thinks that SALEM needs to be big in the ad. Joy Conner wants bright pictures and eye catching. The board agrees. Joy Conner emailing Christine at ILLINOISouth some pictures for Christine to maybe use for the ad. Christine offered to create an ad and get approval before printing. Christine said they could have an ad for approval in a couple of weeks.

Sherry Morton made a motion to do a half (1/2) page horizontal ad in the Tourism Times. Janelle Smith seconded the motion. AYES: Brooke Frederick, Joy Conner, Janelle Smith, Leon Chapman, Sherry Morton and Chairman Jacob Hockett.

NAYS: None. Motion carried.

Grant Reports

Tourism Grant – To be discussed at next meeting after Brooke Frederick gets more information on it.

Jacob Hockett thinks that Tourism needs to do the grant. Brooke Frederick said the deadline is December 2nd. Joy Conner asked what the amount is.

As there was no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 5:31 p.m.

The next regular Tourism meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 12, 2022.
