Blackburn Defeated by Webster
Blackburn Women’s basketball took a loss on Wednesday evening against the Webster University Gorloks. The Beavers were defeated by a final score of 100-50.
Webster wasted no time, scoring the first bucket of the game just seconds after tip off. It was all Webster from that moment forward, as they held onto the lead for the entire game. Blackburn would not be able to break through Webster’s defense, as the Gorloks ran a full press against the Beavers for a majority of the game.
The Beavers were heading into the game dealing with injuries on the team. Star point guard for the Beavers, Aryanna Harris, was unable to play tonight due to a leg injury. Meanwhile, freshman guard Caidy Tuetken, who has proven to be a valuable resource for the Beavers, was unable to participate in the game tonight due to concussion protocol.
Webster did not let up on their defensive attack. They forced 38 turnovers from the Beavers and scored a majority of their points off of forced turnovers. The Beavers were down by a decent amount at halftime, but managed to score more in the second half.
Webster had multiple players finish with double digit points. As for Blackburn, both Courtnee Riley and Mariah Hopson finished with double digit points. Riley had ten, while Hopson recorded 17. Riley was just shy of a double-double, as she collected nine rebounds in the game.
The Beavers will have a few days to rest up before they begin the second half of conference play, opening things up by hosting Westminster College on Saturday, January 28th. Blackburn College will be designating this game as it’s Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers game. All in attendance are encouraged and invited to wear their best suits and sneakers to the game! Tip off is set for 1:00 p.m.
