Arredondo Propels Blackburn to Sweep of Austin College

Sophomore RJ Arredondo went 4 for 5 with four RBI's in game one to help the Blackburn College Baseball Team sweep Austin College by scores of 16-3 and 6-3 in 12 innings on Sunday afternoon and night in Sherman, Texas.  The wins elevate Blackburn to 3-4 on the season.

In game one, Blackburn scored two in the first and eight in the second inning in running away with the 16-3 victory. Starter Jason Hedges pitched six innings of the seven inning game to pick up his first victory of the season.  Blackburn had 13 hits in the game with Adam Holm and Aidan Hamerlinck gaining a pair of hits each to join Arredondo in the multiple hit category.  Hedges threw six innings allowing just five hits while striking out five in the victory.  Chris Richmond pitched a scoreless 7th inning for the Beavers.

Game two was a tense game with Antonio Massengill starting and giving Blackburn 3 2/3 of solid pitching leaving with the game 3-2 in the advantage of the Beavers.  Freshman lefty Kelton Keran followed with an inning a third of scoreless relief.  Ryne Hanslow came on for the save in the 7th but Austin was able to plate a run sending the game in extra innings.  Afterwards, Hanslow and the Blackburn bullpen tandem of Jarrett Reed and Rudy Farias kept the Roos off the board until the Beavers could plate three runs in the top half of the 12th.  

In the 12th, Adam Holm reached on an error and then after an out, stole second base then stole third base.  Andrew Lozano then walked. After a pitching change Mitchell Binder drove in the go ahead run on a safety squeeze bunt.  After a pair of outs and with Lozano and Binder on second and third, Ashton Harvey hit a towering pop-up that the second baseman dropped giving Blackburn the 6-3 lead.  Farias allowed a couple of runners but stranded them when Binder fielded a ground ball and finished the game with the throw to first giving the Beavers the sweep of the doubleheader.  The victory for Farias was his first collegiate victory on the mound.  Despite being out-hit 9-7, the Beavers held on to move to 3-4 on the young season.  

After a day off, the Beavers will be back on the diamond at Dallas Christian College on Tuesday.
