City of Assumption Police Committee met July 11

City of Assumption Police Committee met July 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Meeting called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Alderperson Smith.

Police Committee members present were Alderpersons Smith, Nelsen and Walden. Also present were Chief Wade, Treasurer Angel Palmer and City Clerk Janet Waller. Mayor Page arrived at 6:37 pm.

Alderperson Nelsen made a motion to approve the Police Committee Meeting minutes of June 13, 2023, seconded by Walden. Motion carried with Alderpersons Smith, Nelsen and Walden voting aye and 0 nays.

Under Old Business:

The committee discussed updates on Rt 51 and Leafland intersection.

Under New Business:

A School Resource Officer has been hired. The committee discussed hours and also discussed updating the police handbook to include the School Resource Officer.

Chief Wade will be getting quotes for a computer for the school resource officer.

Rumble strips were discussed with the County Engineer regarding possible placement on Leafland.

The cost of a pistol for the School Resource Officer is $555.00.

A grant for $500.00 from Walmart has been approved and maybe used to purchase equipment for the School Resource Officer.

The lights and sirens should be coming in around July 23 for the School Resource Officer Squad.

Graphics for the police car was discussed.

The committee adjourned at 6:54 pm.
