City of Greenville Planning Commission met April 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

The Planning Commission Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jack Chism at 6:00 PM.

Committee Members Present: Planning Commission Member Brent Shaw, Planning Commission Member Chance Vohlken, Planning Commission Member Dennis Warren, Planning Commission Member Eugene Holt, Planning Commission Member Jack Chism, and Planning Commission Member Jane Nelson

Committee Members Absent:

5.1. Minutes of the February 5, 2024 Planning Commission.

Motion by Dennis Warren, seconded by Brent Shaw, to approve the minutes of the 2/5/24 meeting of the planning commission.

RESULT: Carried

5.1. Public Hearing

A) The Public Hearing was opened at 6:07 PM: A request from Greenville Smoke Shop and Vape for a Conditional Use Permit to operate a tobacco and vape facility in the Commercial Neighborhood (CN) zone at property identified as Parcel # 05-30-14-425-002, commonly known as 1501 IL Rt. 127, Suite B.

Motion by Brent Shaw, seconded by Jane Nelson, to close the public hearing at 6:08 PM.

RESULT: Carried

6. MATTERS OF CONSIDERATION

6.1. Consideration of the conditional use permit from Greenville Smoke Shop and Vape for a tobacco and vape facility in the Commercial Neighborhood (CN) zone at property identified as Parcel # 05-30-14-425-002, commonly known as 1501 IL Rt. 127, Suite B.

Vohlken stated this is for tobacco products, not a marijuana dispensary. He liked the fact that there are competing businesses close together. Hollenkamp said that a lot of businesses do that, such as Walgreens and CVS across the street from each other. Vohlken said we should give them the opportunity to do business in town. Shaw said it will be good to see a business in a long standing vacant building. Chism liked free enterprise.

Motion by Chance Vohlken, seconded by Dennis Warren, to approve the request from Greenville Smoke Shop & Vape for a Conditional Use Permit to operate a tobacco and vape facility in the Commercial Neighborhood (CN) zone at property identified as Parcel # 05-30-14-425-002, commonly known as 1501 IL Route 127, Suite B.
