FOIA Request to City of Centralia Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
We at South Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have recently sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Centralia. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
The information sought pertains to all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. Specifically, we are interested in obtaining data about the type of permit issued, the date it was issued, the fee paid for it, who requested it, the address where work is being done, and the name of the contractor involved.
In addition to this, we have also requested details about all currently active residential and commercial building permits along with their status. The same fields as mentioned above are required for these active permits as well.
As a news organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to such public records is essential for us. It allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities effectively. We believe that our role in disseminating information qualifies us for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We look forward to receiving this information from the City of Centralia so that we can continue providing our readers with accurate and timely reports on local government activities.
