Germantown School District 60 Board of Education met Oct. 9.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Lee Deerhake with the following members present: Matt Korte, Terry Biggs, Jessica Hemker, Andrea Linders, Nicole Peters, Ashley Winter and Lee Deerhake. Also in attendance: Superintendent Robin Becker; Assistant Principal Trisha Weekley; Board Secretary Leigh Ann Arentsen and RtI/SEL/Special Education Coordinator Kristine Beer. Guests included: Doug Ess, our Auditor.

Motion (2024/25-55) to approve agenda was made by Mrs. Peters with a second by Mr. Korte. Motion carried (7-0).

Reports:

1. Auditor Report:

Doug Ess of Glass & Shuffett, LTD presented an overview of our annual audit for Fiscal Year 2024. The district ended the fiscal year with a balanced budget in the four operating funds combined and earned the highest financial profile rating of Recognition with a 3.70 score on a 4.0 scale. Mr. Ess highlighted the fact that Germantown had the fifth lowest operating expense per pupil out of 368 Illinois elementary schools for the previous fiscal year. 2. Assistant Principal Report:

a. SEL Family Night - Mrs. Weekley highlighted the work of the SEL Squad who planned and helped facilitate the first SEL Family Night of the school year. The theme was “Self-Awareness.” The turnout was big and the feedback was very positive. The next SEL Family Night is scheduled for March 6.

b. Odds and Ends - The FISH committee hosted their first potluck of the school year which was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to our two September Students of the Month, 3rd grader Kyler Kohnen and 8th grader Payton Korte.

3. Superintendent Report:

a. Sports Update – Superintendent Becker noted that the third year of Bulldog Cross Country is wrapping up and will culminate with Sydney Hemker and Kyler Ribbing participating in the State Cross Country Meet. It has been a very successful year thanks in large part to the leadership of Coach Chris Hemker. Fifth and sixth grade girls basketball is in the last stretch of its season. JV and Varsity girls and boys basketball will ramp up in the next week.

b. School Improvement Planning - A discussion ensued on the topic of the district’s school improvement initiative for the year. Each teacher has a goal board and has identified at least one goal for the year. On school improvement days and teacher institute days, the teachers will complete tasks aligned to their goal(s).

c. Capital Campaign - The Raise the Roof Rockfest was a success. The committee did a fantastic job of coordinating the event. Phase two of fundraising has begun and entails writing and submitting for grants.

d. Chess Club - We are excited to kick off this new program being offered by fourth grade teachers, Rose Wilken and Susan Knapp. It is open to junior high students and will be held on Wednesday after school starting on October 30 and running through December 18.

4. IASB Liaison Report - Ashley Winter stated there was nothing to report at this time.

Motion (2024/25-56) to approve the items of consent as follows was made by Mr. Korte with a second by Mrs. Linders. Roll call vote showed the following: Korte, aye; Biggs, aye; Hemker, aye; Linders, aye; Peters, aye; Winter, aye and Deerhake, aye.

New Business:

Motion (2024/25-57) to appoint Mrs. Robin Becker as Section 504 Coordinator was made by Mrs. Hemker with a second by Mrs. Peters. Roll call vote showed the following: Biggs, aye; Hemker, aye; Linders, aye; Peters, aye; Winter, aye; Korte, aye and Deerhake, aye.

Motion (2024/25-58) to approve Second Reading of PRESS Policy Issue 116 - August 2024 with the exception of the Title IX policies was made by Mrs. Hemker with a second by Mr. Biggs. Motion carried (7-0).

Motion (2024/25-59) to enter Closed Session at 7:57 p.m. to discuss Appointment, Employment, Evaluation, or Dismissal of Employees and Student Discipline was made by Mr. Korte with a second by Mrs. Winter. Motion carried (7-0).

Motion (2024/25-60) to return to Open Session at 8:15 p.m. was made by Mrs. Peters with a second by Mrs. Linders. Motion carried (7-0).

Motion (2024/25-61)) to approve Resignation of Head Cook, Anita Schomaker, effective the end of the 2024-25 School Year was made by Mrs. Winter with a second by Mr. Korte . Roll call vote showed the following: Hemker, aye; Linders, aye; Peters, aye; Winter, aye; Korte, aye; Biggs, aye and Deerhake, aye.

Motion (2024/25-62) to adjourn the meeting at 8:16 p.m. was made by Mr. Biggs with a second by Mrs. Winter. Motion carried (7-0).
