With Halloween approaching, Senator Plummer has provided safety guidelines to ensure a secure trick-or-treating experience. The advice includes adhering to local trick-or-treating hours and using sidewalks to prevent accidents. Adults are encouraged to carry flashlights for visibility, and it's advised that candy be inspected before consumption.

Costume safety tips suggest choosing flame-resistant materials or polyester/nylon for homemade costumes. Reflective clothing or tape is recommended to enhance visibility. Makeup is preferred over masks to prevent vision obstruction, and it should be tested 24-48 hours in advance to avoid allergic reactions. Decorative contact lenses should not be used without a prescription.

The FDA also offers nutritional and safety tips: treats should only be consumed after being checked at home, unwrapped or homemade items should be avoided, and labels must be reviewed for allergens. Parents of young children should remove choking hazards like gum, peanuts, hard candies, or small toys from their children's Halloween bags.

The goal is to make this Halloween enjoyable while prioritizing safety.
