State Senator Steve McClure of Springfield issued a statement in response to United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem's recent press conference held in Springfield.

Senator McClure addressed concerns about the impact of Governor J.B. Pritzker's sanctuary policies on Illinois' safety and financial burden. He stated, "The Homeland Security Secretary’s words put an exclamation point on what Illinoisans unfortunately already know- that Governor Pritzker’s sanctuary policies are making Illinois less safe, costing taxpayers billions of dollars, and are likely in violation of federal law."

McClure further criticized the governor for hindering communication between local law enforcement and federal officials. He remarked, "The Governor’s refusal to allow law enforcement to communicate with federal officials means that criminals are kept here, in our communities." The senator emphasized that the issue is not limited to border areas but has extended into neighborhoods across Illinois due to these policies.
