Ameren Illinois has announced a new initiative to help households facing higher energy bills during the summer. The company has allocated $4 million for a program that offers a one-time $150 grant to eligible customers to assist with their electricity bills. This measure comes as families deal with increased demand, rising supply costs, and extreme heat.

The assistance is available to income-qualified customers. While separate from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), the funds will be distributed by local LIHEAP agencies. Families interested in applying are encouraged to contact their local agency through HelpIllinoisFamilies.com or by calling 833-711-0374. The grants will be given out until the allocated resources are exhausted.

Ameren Illinois is also reminding customers of other support options. Applications for LIHEAP will reopen on October 1, offering direct bill payment assistance and additional benefits like waived deposits and late fees. The company continues to promote its energy efficiency programs, which include home assessments and possible upgrades such as better insulation or heating systems, aimed at reducing long-term energy costs. More information about these programs can be found at AmerenIllinois.com/PathtoSavings.

McClure, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2023 to represent the state's 54th Senate District, replacing previous state senator Sam McCann.
