State lawmakers convened in Springfield for the first two days of the annual fall Veto Session. During the 2025 spring session, a total of 436 bills were passed by both chambers of the General Assembly and sent to the Governor. Of these, four bills received vetoes: two total vetoes, one reduction veto, and one amendatory veto.
No action was taken on any of the vetoed legislation during this initial period. Lawmakers are scheduled to return to the Capitol on October 28, which may allow them to move forward with new legislation or revisit bills introduced earlier in the year.
Several proposals have drawn attention, including measures related to what some describe as the Majority Party’s tax-and-spend agenda. One such measure is a Transit Bill described as a billion-dollar bailout for Mayor Brandon Johnson. This bill would transfer control of the regional transit board to Chicago and require suburban taxpayers to cover much of its cost. Lawmakers may also debate a proposed $1.50 delivery tax on nearly every package delivered to homes in Illinois.
The second week of the fall Veto Session will take place from October 28 through October 30.
Plummer, a Republican, was elected to represent Illinois’ 55th Senate District in 2023, succeeding Darren Bailey.
